Boost Your Skills at Salon College
Yoshimi Salon and Spa in Newquay will be providing some of its salon space to students from Cornwall Council’s Adult Education Service from the beginning of September.
At this time there are two courses being offered – one is a one-day per week course entitled Introduction to Hair and Beauty which is designed to help attendees discover more about the industry and decide whether or not they would wish to train to become a hair stylist.
The second course is a two-day per week Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing which is the minimum industry qualification needed to work as a qualified hairdresser. Both training courses begin in September and enrolments are being taken now.
Additionally there is an opportunity to enrol on the Diploma in Nail Services as well as the Level 3 Aromatherapy Training course.
One of the co-founders of Yoshimi, Matt Hills, suggested that they had always been enthusiastic about establishing some sort of school for education in this field since they launched, but considered the time wasn’t right.
He stated: “Eight years ago we set up and built Yoshimi, a large building with enough size and scope to change a part of it into a college.”
Matt said he would have “loved” this kind of learning environment when he was a trainee.
He added: “It’s about training with some of the best teachers but also the bonus of training next door to one of Cornwall’s busiest salons, being able to nip in and see how they can develop and ask highly trained stylists their opinions and ideas.”
“I made contact with Cornwall Council and Adult Education boards and before I knew it we had begun organising dates and courses. We want to establish a college that appears like a great salon as opposed to a stereotypical college.”
